| Pre-School Programs Time for Two A thirty-minute motor development class for children ages eighteen months through three years of age and an adult. With adult guidance children begin the lesson with a warm-up followed by fun physical activities incorporated into an obstacle course and a visit to other pieces of gymnastics equipment. Activities promote strength, flexibility, coordination, and jumping as well as strengthening the parent/child bond. Preschool Gymnastics Our preschool program features different class lengths. For three and four year olds, half hour classes - Minis. Four and five year olds have the option of trying Preschool Level 1 a forty-five minute class. Each week gymnasts participate in warm ups followed by a circuit which incorporates beginning gymnastics skills. At the conclusion of each lesson, students are given skill cards to help them learn the names of skills and in many cases the skills can be practiced at home under supervision. As a child demonstrates the ability to work more difficult skills he or she is encouraged to register for a longer, more advanced preschool class. Preschool classes of all levels are offered mornings, early afternoons, and evenings throughout the week. For parents able to get their children to the gym during the day, morning and early afternoon classes offer the advantage of few distractions. Minis, the preschool class for three and four year olds, has a class ratio of six students per instructor while the preschool classes for 4 & 5 year olds have a maximum ratio of seven students per instructor. Please refer to the following level descriptions for guidance when selecting the appropriate level for four and five year olds. The listed skills must be mastered before a student may register for the next level. Current students will receive a level recommendation at the conclusion of each session to ensure proper placement. If your child is new to our program or it has been some time since he or she has been enrolled and you are unsure of the appropriate placement call us to arrange a level recommendation. Pre-School Level 1 – Floor: forward roll, bridge, round off from mat, handstand Vault: squat on vault to three mats Bars: hangs five counts, cast, forward roll dismount, pullover with spot Beam: walks & balances on low beam, walk on high beam without assistance Pre-School Level 2 – Floor: kickover off panel mat, round off with good form, back roll on wedge Vault: squat on vault to four mats, correct landing on big board Bars: forward roll to tuck, jump chin for five counts, pullover with spot Beam: walks/balances on high beam, round off dismount from low beam Pre-School Level 3 - Floor: kickover on floor, backbend onto skill cushion, cartwheel, back roll Vault: arm circle, dive roll onto resi-mat Bars: Pullover, forward roll to L-hang, back hip circle with spot Beam: round off dismount off high beam, leaps and straight jump on high Rising Stars Advanced preschoolers and kindergarteners work skills at this level that require more time to attain. As a result gymnasts meet an hour and fifteen minutes once a week. Instructor recommendation is required for this program. Rec Programs Gymnastics for children Ages 6 and up This program has a level format. Beginners learn the basics in Level 1. As they master these skills they advance to higher levels. Each week during their class gymnasts participate in warm-ups and visit two pieces of equipment working toward more advanced skills through the use of progressions. At the conclusion of each lesson students are given skill cards to help them learn the names of skills and in many cases the skills can be practiced at home with supervision. Classes are offered in the afternoons and early evenings as well as Saturdays during the school year. The maximum class ratio is eight students per instructor. NO EXCEPTIONS! Advanced gymnasts who are interested in becoming team members attend lessons to learn routines as well as skills. As a result, students have the opportunity to participate in non-sanctioned meets in the late fall and early spring if they wish. The purchase of a preteam leotard is necessary to attend meets. Level 3 Preteam members attend a Back Handspring class in addition to an hour and fifteen minute class each week. Level 4 Preteam members attend twice a week for an hour and a half. High School Gymnastics Older gymnasts considering joining their high school gymnastics team in the future or gymnasts already high school team members often find this two-hour class very beneficial. Students work toward dance and tumbling passes as well as skills on different apparatus they can incorporate into routines for competition. Tumbling for Children Ages 6 and Up This class is a favorite with future cheerleaders and present day cheerleaders alike. The entire hour is spent on the floor working on tumbling skills that can be used in cheers and routines. Beginning Tumbling Levels 1-3, Back handsprings, and Back handspring + are offered afternoons and evenings throughout the week. Entire squads can request a class together and we will work to set one up. Please refer to the following level descriptions for guidance when selecting the appropriate level.
